The director general of the Organizing Committee «Oran 2022», Salim Ilès said that the postponement of the Mediterranean Games will allow the host country to be more ambitious and more innovative.

“Last week was crucial. The Mediterranean Games Oran 2021 have been wisely postponed for one year. The pandemic was affected all the sport calendars of the year, especially the Tokyo Olympics something that had a direct impact on our Games. The Organizing Committee of the Oran Mediterranean Games will now have one more year of preparation. Far from any reason of bitterness, the Organizing Committee will work even more harder to revise its ambitions on a more higher level. Our tasks are known, the challenges identified and the aim to organize a high standar competition, will be our motif.

The Organizing Committee will work as hard as it has already done to achieve this goal. But what would this effort be, if it does not include the human element: the Citizen?

These games are an opportunity for all of us to make this stage in Oran a benchmark in the history of the Mediterranean Games. We are going to write and you are going to write Algeria in golden letters in the  list of the major sporting events. Let us therefore be proud to be Algerian.”
