The Albanian National Olympic Committee developed on 15 – 29 May 2020, Online Course on Sports Administration dedicated to athletes.
Defined as online distance training, because of the COVID-19 pandemic and cancelation of all sports activities, this course helped out 15 participants as active and former athletes, from 20 to 35 years old.
Mr. Stavri Bello as Director of the Program of such courses licensed by the Olympic Solidarity, stressed the importance and necessity for athletes to be provided with the necessary skills for life after a sports career, where they will face the labor market and for this purpose they should be prepared. The Albanian NOC tries to provide athletes with an opportunity to confront information with their sports careers, combining sports management knowledge from a theoretical perspective and good practice models.
A very special contribution to this course was given by six MEMOS network. International and national lecturers, invited by NOC, were giving practical examples but also encouraging accurate theoretical information on topics of:
Sports Organization (Good Governance, Roles, Management)
Managerial Skills (Management, Leadership, Organization, Communication)
Olympic Movement (Organization, Structure, Leadership)
Olympic Principles (Values, Ethics, Fairplay)
A special session was dedicated to the Athletes Commission, where the guest lecturer was Mrs. Karen Dolphin, Manager of the Sports Department at the IOC. The session was attended by 19 active athletes, from who were 4 Olympic Scholarship holders, and 3 beneficiaries of Olympic Solidarity projects, invited by the NOC to take part in this session.
This course in Sports Administration is an obligatory condition to follow the Advanced Sports Management Course (ASMC).
