During the joint meetings between the Organising Committee of the Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026 and the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games held in Taranto, Alessia Maurelli was officially introduced as Mayor of the Athletes’ Village for the Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026.

A distinguished Olympian in gymnastics, Alessia Mairelli represented Italy at three editions of the Olympic Games — Rio 2016 , Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games — winning two bronze medals in the last two Olympic Games.

The ICMG Secretary General, Iakovos Filippousis, warmly welcomed and congratulated her, praising both her inspiring journey and her commitment to sport and Olympic values.

The ICMG also congratulated the Taranto 2026 Organising Committee, and particularly its Director General, Carlo Molfetta, for this highly symbolic appointment, which reflects the ambition of the Games to place athletes at the very heart of the Mediterranean project.
