Olympic taekwondo gold medalist Matea Jelić and Olympic sailing silver medalist inTokyo Tonči Stipanović were named Croatia’s best athletes in 2021 by the Croatian Olympic Committee.

The awards were presented at the Great Day of Croatian Sports celebration in the Crystal Hall of The Westin in Zagreb.

In addition to the Olympic gold in Tokyo, Jelić also won the European champion title. Stipanović also won the bronze again in the Laser class at the World Championships in Barcelona.

Both were named Athletes of the Year in 2020 when Jelić shared the award with judoka Karla Prodan.

Rowing brothers Martin and Valent Sinković, Olympic champions and European took the award for the best pair, relay or crew.

Best female team was the karate team (Ana Lenard, Lucija Lesjak, Lea Vukoja and Mia Greta Zorko) and the Davis cup national tennis team (Marin Čilić, Nikola Mektić, Mate Pavić, Borna Gojo and Nino Serdarušić) was the best male team.

Best coaches of the year were Toni Tomas (taekwondo), Nikola Bralić (rowing) and Vedran Martić (tennis).
