A few days before the opening of Patras Mediterranean Beach Games and four years after the first Beach Games, held in Pescara in 2015, the numbers of the competition are impressive, as there is progress in all areas.

Nearly twice as many volunteers (1,000 compared to 521), more athletes (950 compared to 763) and two more participating countries (26 against 24). All these numbers are indicate the progress and the establishment of the Mediterranean Beach Games.

Italy, as a traditional sports force and host of the 2015 Games, had the lion’s share, winning 70 medals, including 33 gold, 23 silver and 14 bronze, while France finished 2nd with 27 medals(13-5-9). Greece was third with 21 medals.

The days of the games may have been reduced (from 10 to 7), but the infrastructures have almost been doubled with 10 arenas in 4 sports venues .
