The city of Tlemcen was chosen by the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee (COA) to host the festivities marking the celebration of Olympic Day.

The celebration of the Olympic Day is happening annually at 23rd of June by all the National Olympic Committees. Τhe eventa was postponed to September 23 due to the organization by Algeria of the Mediterranean Games “Oran 2022”.

The COA President, Abderrahmane Hammad, considered that this event “is an opportunity to invite young people to discover new sports disciplines and therefore a means of encouraging the society to practice in sport”.

The celebration of Olympic Day in Tlemcen was marked by a large parade of teams and young athletes at the Akid Lotfi stadium.

The first event was a three-kilometre race, open to all ages, followed by an exhibition of the 18 sports teams of Tlemcen.

The celebration of Olympic Day included also a cycling race.
