The president of the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee (AOC), Mr Mustapha Berraf, gave a press conference and announced the activities and the preparations of AOC for the next sporting events.
Elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the President of the COA reviewed the main events that have marked the national sport scene during the last six months, focusing on the work undertaken in the direction of the African Games in Morocco, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the Mediterranean Games “Oran 2021”.
Algerian participation in various continental competitions, including the next African Games in Morocco (August 19-31) and the results of the Algerian athletes at the 1st African Beach Games, held from June 14 to 23 in Sal, Cape Verde, were also mentioned.
“With more than 300 athletes in 26 disciplines, Algeria will be present in the African Games, a very important meeting for our athletes. The AOC awarded 62 scholarships to Algerian athletes as part of the Olympic Solidarity programs with the IOC and the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA). Huge sums of money have been allocated to support the program of preparation of sports federations, in coordination with the Ministry of Youth and Sports “, Berraf said.
Berraf also claimed the AOC had already started planning for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris by establishing academies in sports such as judo and fencing.
