
ICMG writes history with the sustainability in the Mediterranean Games
August 27, 2026On the sixth day of the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games, Italy won 13 medals, becoming the first nation to pass the 100-medal mark. The Italians dominated boxing and fin swimming, winning four golds in each sport. Spain also performed well, winning four titles in boxing, as did Turkey, which dominated in shooting shotgun and shooting. Kosovo, thanks to Donjeta Sadiku, won its first gold at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games. In the medal table, Italy’s tally rose to 110 medals, including 40 golds.
BOXING
In boxing, Italy and Spain ruled the roost, with four golds each. Gabriele Guidi Rontani’s victory in the -70kg category enabled the Italian delegation to reach 100 medals at Taranto 2026, with the Games now at the halfway stage. Kosovo won its first gold and first medal at Taranto 2026, thanks to Donjeta Sadiku in the -60kg.
SHOOTING
In shooting, Turkey won two medals in the men’s 10-metre air rifle event. Credit goes to Ismail Keles and Bugra Selimzade, who won gold and bronze respectively; whilst the silver went to France’s Antoine Naucodie. It was a disappointing day for the three Olympic medallists competing – Federico Nilo Maldini, Paolo Monna and Damir Mikec – who were the first to be eliminated in the final, missing out on the podium.
SHOOTING
In the mixed team trap event, Turkey’s Safiye Temizdemir secured a double after her triumph in the individual competition, partnering Yavuz Ilnam. The podium was completed by Spain, who took silver, and Italy, who took bronze.
FIN SWIMMING
In fin swimming, Italy was once again the most successful nation on the second and final day. The Azzurri won four golds and eight medals. Egypt also performed well with two golds and six medals, as did Greece with two titles and four podium finishes. At the Torre d’Ayala Stadium, the venue for swimming and fin swimming, Italy collected a total of 67 medals.
