
The “Podgorica Sports Science, Medicine & Health Forum 2025”
September 27, 2025The Secretary General of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (ICMG), Iakovos Filippousis, together with the President of the ICMG Coordination Commission “Portimão-Lagoa 2027,” Elias Dalainas, visited Portugal and the cities of Portimão and Lagoa, which will host the 4th Mediterranean Beach Games in 2027.
They were welcomed on behalf of the Portuguese Olympic Committee by Executive Board member Pedro Farromba and Felipe Jesus, Director of the Olympic Program and Missions Department. From the city of Portimão, Ana Lucas, Head of the Department of Youth and Sports, and Pedro Batalau from the Sports and Youth Department attended, while from Lagoa, Isa Parreira from the Sports Department was present.
The purpose of the trip was to arrange the organizational matters regarding the hosting of the ICMG Executive Committee meeting on November 28th and the ICMG Extraordinary General Assembly the following day, as well as to finalize all details concerning the reception and hospitality of the Mediterranean family.
In addition, a detailed analysis was carried out regarding the planning of the 4th Mediterranean Beach Games to be held in 2027 in Portimão and Lagoa. The planning focused on the following areas:
- Technology
- Competition schedule
- Anti-doping
- Accommodation
- Transportation
- Television coverage
- Games branding
The discussion was thorough and in-depth, with many proposals raised for the optimal organization of this major sporting event. ICMG emphasized to the host cities that it will provide all its expertise and every possible assistance for the flawless staging of the Games.
It was evident that both cities are committed to organizing outstanding Beach Games, while also highlighting the excellent cooperation they have developed in order to ensure that the 2027 Mediterranean Beach Games become a milestone for ICMG and for the sporting history of Portugal.
The creation of the Games’ logo is also in its final stage, with the design set to be presented at the Extraordinary General Assembly on November 29th.
Commenting on his visit to Portugal, ICMG Secretary General Iakovos Filippousis stated: “I had the opportunity and pleasure to visit Portugal and meet with the representatives of the cities of Portimão and Lagoa. I personally witnessed the willingness, enthusiasm, and commitment of the local authorities to organize exceptional Mediterranean Beach Games in 2027. I am confident that with the support of the Government, the Portuguese Olympic Committee, and all institutional partners, this event will showcase the values of Mediterranean sport and become a celebration for the athletes, the spectators, and the entire region.”
The ICMG delegation then visited Lisbon and met with the President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee, Mr. Fernando Gomes, and Secretary General Ms. Diana Gomes. The President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee reaffirmed the full commitment of the country’s Olympic family to host high-level Games, as well as its dedication to successfully staging the General Assembly this coming November.
The visit concluded with a tour of the Portuguese Olympic Committee’s facilities for the ICMG representatives.
