Heraklion will host the 2023 Mediterranean Beach Games

The host city contract of the Mediterranean Βeach Games “Heraklion 2023” was signed in Crete

The 2023 Mediterranean Beach Games will be held in Heraklion. The General Assembly of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games unanimously approved the candidature file submitted by the three coastal municipalities (Heraklion, Hersonissos and Malevizi), with the full support of the Ministry of Sports.

The presentation of the candidacy of Crete to the ICMG General Assembly was made by the members of the Bid Committee, Eleftheria Axioti and Costas Liakopoulos, in the presence respectively of the Mayors of Heraklion, Hersonissos and Malevizi, Vassilis Lambrinos, Giannis Segkos and Menelaos Bokeas.

“Heraklion 2023” proposed for the 1,500 athletes from 26 Mediterranean countries an 8-day event (September 2-9, 2023) with six sand disciplines on Karteros beach:

> Volleyball

> Football

> Handball

> Tennis

> Wrestling

> Karate,

three water sports on Ammoudara beach (rowing, canoeing and kite surfing), three others on Mallia beach (open water swimming, water skiing and triathlon) and one at the Heraklion Lido pool (technical swimming).

The Opening Ceremony is scheduled at Panktirio Stadium, the Closing Ceremony at Stadium of Liberty and many cultural events are planned before, during and after the Games.
