The Honorary Committee of the 18th Mediterranean Games of Tarragona 2017, chaired by King Felipe VI, was officially established during a ceremony held on Monday 16th March at the Theater of Tarragona. It was in front of a large audience of over 250 participants, including representatives from the world of sport, from public institutions, from the world of Culture and Civil Society, and business representatives, that Mr. Josep Maria Ballesteros, Mayor of Tarragona and President of the OCMG, Mr. Amar Addadi, ICMG President, Mr. Alejandro Blanco, President of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Mr. Francesc Homs, Advisor to the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Mr. Alfonso Alonso, Minister of Health and Social Services, representing the Central Government, and the King Felipe VI, took the floor. In his address, His Majesty the King confirmed that the Mediterranean Games are an opportunity to move towards the future by further enhancing the prestige of the country in the Mediterranean region and pointed out that he is convinced that the organizing team is firmly committed to turn the project of the Games into an event that shall provide a lasting legacy both for Tarragona and the entire province.
Afterwards, the King accompanied by all the members of the Honorary Committee visited Tarraco Arena Plaza, one of the venues that will be used for the Mediterranean Games.
