The two important meetings, held on Thursday, February 7th, at the headquarters of the Organizing Committee of the 2nd Mediterranean Beach Games which are to be held in Patras from 25 to 31 August 2019, have been the starting point of the final effort of all the parties involved to make sure that from now on there won’t be any time lost and that all parties will work together in a coordinated way and in close cooperation, with high professionalism and team spirit, in order to be worthy of the confidence placed in them by the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games by awarding them the Games, and live up to the expectations of the citizens of Patras to organize excellent Games.
The first meeting was attended by the President of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Fotis Sarantopoulos, the Secretary General of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games, Mr. Iakovos Filippousis, the Secretary General of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Mr. Emmanuel Kolympadis, a member of the ICMG Coordination Commission, the members of the Executive Committee of the Organizing Committee, Messrs. Plato Marlafekas and Ilias Grigoris, and the new executives of the Organizing Committee “Patras 2019”.
The participants were informed about the progress of preparations so far; the next steps to be taken, based on a specific timetable, as well as the first priorities for each sector were clearly defined in order to guarantee the successful organization of the Games.
The location of the sports venues, the Sports Program, the Master Plan of the Games and the hospitality/accommodation of the Mediterranean Family have been defined as first organizational priorities.
The meeting was very fruitful and positive confirming the enthusiasm and commitment of all the parties involved to win the bet for Patras and Western Greece, so that the 2nd Mediterranean Beach Games can be a great legacy with multiple sporting, social and cultural benefits.
The second meeting, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Sports, Mr. Giorgos Vasiliadis, was attended by the representatives of the Mayor of Patras, Mr. Takis Petropoulos, and the Regional Vice-Governor of Western Greece, Mr. Kostas Karpetas.
The Deputy Minister informed the participants of the legislative interventions made in order to guarantee the funding of the Organization and announced that the Organizing Committee is to be given shortly 2.74 million euros.
The next important date for the finalization of the Sports Program has been set on February 13th, while the next visit of the Coordination Commission to Patras will be take place on February 28th.
It should be recalled that the next meetings of the ICMG Executive Bureau and Executive Committee will be held in Patras on April 3rd and 4th, 2019.
