The judoka from Kosovo Majlinda Kelmendi officially retired from all her activities as an active judoka.
On this occasion, a ceremony organized by the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, at the “Ali Hadri” Institute in Pristina.
“I worked hard not to disappoint Kosovo and make the country proud,” Kelmendi said during her speech.
Kelmendi has won 32 gold medals in major judo competitions during his career, 6 silver and 8 bronze.
She is leaving after an extremely remarkable career, as Olympic champion, world champion (2 times) and continental champion (4 times).
Kelmendi will be remembered as the first athlete to win an Olympic medal for Kosovo, having made history at Rio 2016 when she won the medal in gold in judo in the 52 kg category.
She last participated in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 where she suffered a depressing first round loss in the 52 kg category.
