A great achievement of the Mediterranean Games is the decision of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) to recognize the Beach Volleyball Tournament of the Mediterranean Beach Games of Patras as one of the qualifying tournaments for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

This decision has a great value because it recognizes the event of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games and it helped the teams participating in the tournament, to earn valuable points and to climb in higher places in the qualification ranking of the Tokyo Olympics.

Mr. Fulvio Danilas, FIVB’s Technical Delegate, who has been observing “Patras 2019” preparations since June, witnessed the high organizational level of the Games and proceeded to the suggestion that was approved by FIVB competent bodies.

As a result, the II Mediterranean Beach Games Beach Volleyball tournaments were included in the circuit of 12 top level tournaments that provide qualification points for the Olympic Games.

The FIVB announcement was greeted with great satisfaction by ICMG.
