The 4th annual national meeting of the Olympic Hopes of Portugal took place at the Rio Maior Sports Center, with the presence of 99 athletes and 52 coaches from 19 sports federations.
Welcoming the participants, the mayor of Rio Maior, Filipe Santana Dias, highlighted “the honor and the responsibility” of hosting the 4th edition of the national meeting.
The Secretary General of the Portuguese Olympic Committee, José Manuel Araújo, addressed the athletes and called on them to “feel this weekend as the beginning of the journey towards the Olympic Games and live what the Olympic spirit is.”
On the first day of the event, the 5-times Olympian and World Champion in race walking, Susana Feitor and Rui Jorge, national under-21 football coach, spoke to coaches and athletes about their experiences and shared their knowledge. Inês Henriques, Olympic walking athlete and her coach Jorge Miguel, were the speakers in the closing session of the meeting.
