
Τhe ICMG Secretary General met with the new Minister for Sport and Youth of Kosovo
February 28, 2026The Kosovo Olympic Committee (Kosovo NOC) hosted a working meeting of the Women in Sport Commission of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (ICMG),in Prishtina, marking an important step toward the launch of the four-year project (2026–2030), “Creation of a Gender Equality Database across ICMG Member Countries.”
The meeting opened with a minute of silence in memory of Mr. Davide Tizzano, President of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games, who passed away on 29 December 2025. Representatives of both organizations paid tribute to his leadership and his lasting contribution to the Mediterranean family.

Kosovo NOC President Ismet Krasniqi, Secretary General Besim Aliti, and ICMG Secretary General Iakovos Filippousis addressed the participants, emphasizing the strategic importance of the project and their commitment to empowering women in sport across the Mediterranean countries.
Rejhan Halili, Deputy President of the ICMG Women in Sport Commission and Head of International Relations at the Kosovo NOC, underlined that the initiative aims to establish a comprehensive and sustainable database that will assess, monitor, and promote gender equality standards in all ICMG member countries. The project is designed to provide measurable indicators and practical recommendations to strengthen women’s participation and leadership in sport.

On this occasion, Mr Filippousis also began the official distribution of invitations for the Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026. President Krasniqi became the first official to accept the invitation, followed by members of the Women in Sport Commission.
Some commission members joined the meeting online to ensure inclusive participation from across the Mediterranean countries.
The meeting concluded with agreed conclusions, recommendations, and a defined action plan for the next phase of the project.
