The meeting of the ICMG Executive Committee began in Tirana in the presence of the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama as well as the Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Endrit Hoxha. The Prime Minister welcomed the members of the Executive Committee and expressed his joy for their presence in Albania.

“Albania is a country that loves sports and I want to invite all members of the Mediterranean family to visit my country in the future and discover its natural beauty” said  Prime Minister Rama who exchanged commemorative presents with the President Tizzano.

Then, the President of the National Olympic Committee of Albania, Fidel Ylli, analyzed the Committee’s strategy for the development of sports in the country.

The ICMG President Davide Tizzano presented the new President of the “Taranto 2026” Organizing Committee, Massimo Ferrarese, who emphasized on the will of the Italian government for the excellent organization of the 2026 Mediterranean Games. This is the reason that 150 million euros have already been delivered to the Organizing Committee “Taranto 2026” while another 125 million euros will be given in the future, for the construction of the new Olympic swimming pool and the renovation of the football stadium and the nautical center.

The ICMG Secretary General Iakovos Filippousis emphasized the importance of speeding up the pace of preparation and the necessity for the Organizing Committee to hire General Manager and Sports Director.

Following the Taranto presentation, President Tizzano congratulated the 1^st Vice President Mehrez Boussayene on his recent election as a member of the International Olympic Committee.

The recommendations of the President of the MG Sports Program Commission Mr. Mohamed Zribi for maintaining the standard programme of core sports in the Mediterranean Games, introducing Air Badminton to the Mediterranean Beach Games and the age category in the Mediterranean Games football tournament to become U21, were approved.

ICMG Treasurer Giotis Ioannidis announced the financial support to the National Olympic Committees of Syria and Lebanon.

The Executive Committee also approved:

• The report of the President of the Solidarity, Culture & Education Commission, Mrs. Ljiljana Ujlaki Subic
• The report of the Acting President of the Medical & Scientific Commission, Dr. Francisco Luis Gomez Serrano
• The report of the President of the Athletes’ Commission, Mr. Sašo Bertoncelj

Finally the Secretary General Mr. Iakovos Filippousis presented the composition of the ICMG Standing Commissions and the establishment of ad-hoc Coordination Commissions.
