The Olympic and sports movement praised the legacy of José Manuel Constantino, former President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee in a ceremony at the COP headquarters in Lisbon.
José Manuel Constantino who passed away on August 11, the last day of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, was posthumously presented with the IOC President’s Trophy, a prestigious award for international collaborators of the Olympic movement.
IOC President Tomas Bach highlighted the lasting impact of the late COP President on national sport, but also his role as “a fabulous ambassador for Olympism” ιn front of an audience of prominent personalities from the Olympic and sports family.
The International Committee of Mediterranean Games was represented at the ceremony by Secretary General Iakovos Philippousis who listened the COP President Artur Lopes, to quote a phrase by José Manuel Constantino, inscribed on the walls of the COP, which illustrated his vision: «Sport is a public good that is socially worth more than it costs».
