It is with the deepest regret that ICMG has learnt of the passing of Doctor Maurice Vrillac, former president of the Medical Commission of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games, which occurred at the dawn of his 99th birthday.

The CIJM had the honor of benefiting for many years from the expertise, experience and wisdom of Dr. Vrillac within, not only the Medical Commission but in all the activities carried out during its presence among us.

Born in 1925 in Jaunay-Clan near Poitiers, Maurice Vrillac studied medicine in Lyon then in Bordeaux, before becoming Doctor of the Joinville Battalion in 1963.

In 1968, he took care of French athletes at the Mexico Olympic Games. President of the medical commission of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee from 1981 to 2009, medical manager of the French delegation to the Olympic Games from 1972 to 2008.

Maurice Vrillac, who was responsible for organizing medical care in several editions of the Mediterranean Games, did a lot for medicine in sport and for this reason was honored with the ICMG Order of Merit.

For many years, Doctor Vrillac has also offered his skills to the Francophonie Games.

In 1973, he became doctor of the French football team, and he remained in the position for fifteen years. He was by the side of Patrick Battiston when he left on a stretcher from the field, being a victim of goalkeeper Harald Schumacher during the legendary 1982 World Cup semi-final in Seville.

The International Committee of Mediterranean Games will never forget his commitment to the service of Mediterranean sport and sends its condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
