A particularly important meeting took place on the sidelines of the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games, highlighting the significant contribution of the Italian Navy to the successful organisation of the Games.

International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) Vice-President and Acting President Mehrez Boussayene along with Secretary General Iakovos Filippousis met with Commander of the Italian Navy’s Southern Maritime Command, Admiral Andrea Pedroni, and other navy officers and expressed their sincere thanks for his valuable support and cooperation in the organisation of the Mediterranean Games.

Particular emphasis was placed on the contribution of the Comando Marittimo Sud to the hosting of the two cruise ships that have been transformed into the “Mediterranean Villages”, serving as the main accommodation hubs for athletes and delegations throughout the Games.

The use of cruise ships as accommodation facilities is one of the most innovative features of Taranto 2026, offering participants a unique experience while highlighting the strong connection between the Games, the sea and Taranto’s rich maritime heritage.

During the meeting, the excellent cooperation between the ICMG, the Organising Committee and the Italian authorities was reaffirmed, with all parties working together towards the safe and successful ending of the Games.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts, in a warm atmosphere that reflected the importance of cooperation, friendship and solidarity at the heart of the Mediterranean Games.
