For the first time at these 20th Mediterranean Games in Taranto 2026, a nation has won all the day’s events in a single sport. The credit goes to Greece, which dominated the first rowing finals in the Mar Piccolo, winning all six gold medals up for grabs. Four athletes were involved in this historic achievement, each of them winning two golds.

The Greek clean sweep began with Evangelia Anastasiadou’s victory in the women’s single sculls. Shortly afterwards, Stefanos Ntouskos triumphed in the men’s event. In the lightweight, Zoi Fitsiou won the women’s race, whilst Petros Gkaidatzis came out on top in the men’s.

Greece’s golden morning was then rounded off by the triumphs of Evangelia Anastasiadou and Stefanos Ntouskos in the mixed double sculls, and that of Zoi Fitsiou and Petros Gkaidatzis in the lightweight mixed double sculls.

The Greeks can now aim for a clean sweep tomorrow, 2 September, when the final four finals in the double sculls and lightweight double sculls will take place.
