The Chinese Embassy in Greece, together with the Hellenic Olympic Committee, expressed their best wishes to the team that will represent Greece at the Winter Olympic Games “Beijing 2022”.
The event, themed “China – Greece, together for a shared future”, took place at the HOC premises in the presence of Deputy Minister of Sports Lefteris Avgenakis, Ambassador of China to Greece Xiao Junzheng, Secretary General and Treasurer of the HOC Manolis Kolympadis and Antonis Nikolopoulos, the President of the Greek Olympians Voula Kozompoli, the High Priestess and the choreographer of the Olympic Flame ceremonies Xanthi Georgiou and Artemis Ignatiou, the Chairman of the HOC Marketing Commission Nikos Iatrou, OLP-Cosco President, Mr. YU Zeng Gang and the President of the Hellenic Winter Sports Federation George Nikitidis.
The Greek team consists of: Apostolos Angelis, Maria Ntanou and Nefeli Tita, who will compete in cross-country skiing, and Ioannis Antoniou and Maria Eleni Tsiovolou in alpine skiing.
The Greek delegation also includes coaches Timos Tsourekas, Christos Titas, Stergios Pappos and Alexandros Tsaknakis. The Chef de Mission is HOC member Demosthenes Gyrousis and the Deputy Chef de Mission is HOC technical advisor Stratos Karetos.
The President of the HOC and IOC Member Spyros Capralos said in his address, “I would like to thank the Chinese Embassy for giving us the opportunity with today’s event to say goodbye to the members of the Greek team who will participate in the Beijing Winter Olympic Games .
I am sure that the five athletes who qualified will represent our country in the best possible way in the world’s most important sporting event.
At the same time, dear Ambassador, today’s event gives us an opportunity to express our gratitude to the Chinese government for organizing the Winter Olympics under difficult conditions due to the pandemic.
I know that the Organizing Committee has taken all appropriate measures to organize safe competitions for the athletes and delegations from all over the world. Dear friends from China, you have already broken the first record, as Beijing will be the first city in history to host the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.”
