Cypriot windsurfer Cariolou qualifies for fifth Olympics

Cypriot windsurfer Andreas Cariolou secured a spot at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 while competing at the 2019 RS:X Windsurfing World Championships (OQ) in Torbole, Italy.
Cariolou is the first Cypriot athlete in history to have qualified for the fifth time for the Olympic Games. He first competed at the Athens 2004 Summer Olympic Games, finishing in 13th place. He then ranked 13th at Beijing 2008, 17th at London 2012, and 19th at Rio de Janeiro 2016.
In addition to Cariolou, seven other Cypriot athletes have qualified for Tokyo 2020 so far: Eleni Artymata (Athletics –
400m), Demetris Constantinou (shooting), Andri Eleftheriou (shooting), Pavlos Kontides (sailing), Marilena Makri (sailing) and Andreas Makris (shooting)
