The flag of the Mediterranean Games of 2026 stands in front of the Taranto City Hall, reminding the inhabitants and the visitors the great sporting event that the Italian city will organize after five years.
A few days before, the President of the Apulia region Michele Emiliano and the Mayor of the city, Rinaldo Melucci, signed the statute of the Organizing Committee of the 20th edition of the Mediterranean Games.
The ceremony took place at the Town Hall and in accordance with the statute, the region and the municipality are the founders and the main stakeholders of the Organizing Committee while the government, the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI), the Italian Paralympic Committee and the province of Taranto are also participating.
The procedure on the establishment of the Organizing Committee, which had provisionally stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has already started.
According to the Mayor of Taranto: “Today we started to march towards Taranto 2026. Until the end of the year we will have prepared the master plan for the Mediterranean Games and we expect that in early 2021 the first infrastructures will start.
