August 31, 2026Algeria’s U-21 football team won the gold medal at the 2026 Mediterranean Games currently taking place in Taranto, Italy, after defeating Tunisia 2-0 (half-time: 1-0) in the final on Sunday evening.
The goals for the “Greens” were scored by the outstanding Benahmed Kohili, who opened the scoring in the very first minute of the match with a powerful strike from 25 meters. He then sealed the victory in the 82nd minute, converting a penalty to double Algeria’s lead.
This marks Algeria’s second football title in the history of the Mediterranean Games, following their triumph in 1975 on home soil, achieved by the country’s celebrated golden generation, which included the dynamic right winger Omar Betrouni.
Football has now delivered Algeria its third gold medal at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games, following the victories of Abdelkrim Fergat in Greco-Roman wrestling and Dris Messaoud Redouane in judo.
