Maria Menounos appointed Ambassador of the Hellenic Olympic Committee for Los Angeles 2028
May 6, 2025The Palazzo Troilo will become the new operational headquarters of the Organizing Committee for the twentieth edition of the Mediterranean Games, “Taranto 2026,” following approval by the Extraordinary Commissioner of the Municipality of Taranto, Dr. Giuliana Perrotta.
Located in the heart of the Old City, overlooking Piazza Duomo, Palazzo Troilo is a noble building of eighteenth-century origin. It was recently the subject of a major restoration and enhancement project, financed through the Development and Cohesion Fund 2014–2020. During the redevelopment works, elements of great historical and artistic value were uncovered, including frescoes, a decorated chapel, and a monumental fireplace—evidence of the building’s ancient splendor. These features were also admired by the Extraordinary Commissioner during a recent visit to the site.
The concession, which runs until June 30, 2027, grants exclusive use of approximately 1,157 m² and shared use of an additional 1,234 m² within Palazzo Troilo. The designated areas include the ground, first, and second floors, as well as the panoramic roof garden, offering the Committee suitable spaces for administrative, technical, and promotional activities.
With this decision, the Municipality of Taranto not only enhances one of its most important historic buildings but also provides tangible support for the organization of the Mediterranean Games 2026—an event that represents an extraordinary opportunity for the revitalization and promotion of the city and its surrounding area.
