Over seven thousand children from 16 municipalities celebrated Olympic Day 2021 in Kosovo on 21 June 2021.
After a break last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, children were able to join the Olympic Day Run in their own cities.
President of the Kosovo Olympic Committee (KOC) Ismet Krasniqi emphasised the relevance of Olympic Day, while encouraging teachers and parents to let their children practise sport as much as possible, and to be inspired by Kosovo hero Majlinda Kelmendi and many other athletes who will represent the country in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Among other activities, hundreds of students organised a hike to the Luboten mountain top. In addition, the Kosovo Olympic Committee, in cooperation with the “Let us Clean Kosovo” (“Ta Pastrojmë Kosovën – TPK”) organisation, celebrated the International Day of Sports and Environment on 4 June 2021.
The celebration was held at the premises of the Oncology Hospital in the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo (UCCK), with KOC and TPK representatives, other sports federation managers, athletes and officials in attendance.
“We planted the Olympic tree today, so that we could jointly convey a message of preservation of a clean, safe and healthy environment, especially in sensitive areas such as the UCCK, and other places hosting sports activities,” said KOC President Krasniqi.
