The HOC President, IOC member and newly elected President of the European Olympic Committees, Spyros Capralos, addressing the athletes, said: “The Hellenic Olympic Committee was filled today with hope, the hopes of our entire nation for distinction at the Tokyo Olympics.
Hopes that are embodied in you, the athletes who will represent Greece in the top sporting event that starts in a few days in the Japanese capital. I am certain that you will do your duty again, as you have done many times in the past, offering moments of national pride to all Greeks, with your struggle but also with your ethos and presence in Tokyo. You have already achieved the first victory with your participation, fulfilling the biggest dream that every athlete has in his career, and I was lucky enough to experience it twice. This victory/qualification is particularly important as it was achieved in really difficult and unprecedented circumstances.”
The Head of Mission Michalis Fysentzidis, who was present at the event, also addressed a greeting, together with the Deputy Head of Mission and ICMG Secretary General Iakovos Filippousis and the HOC Secretary General Manolis Kolympadis. At the end of the event, symbolically, the HOC President Spyros Capralos together with the Deputy Minister of Sports Lefteris Avgenakis, handed over the Greek flag to the Head of the Mission Michalis Fysentzidis.
