Excellent performance from the Mediterranean countries at the African Judo Championships held in Cape Town, South Africa.
Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt took the top three positions in the medal table between 28 countries, while Morocco was seventh.
Overall, the four Mediterranean countries won 36 medals in a total of 56 given to the event, with Algeria having four gold, four silver and five bronze medals. Tunisia won four gold, one silver and three bronze, Egypt three gold, three silver and four bronze, while Morocco won three silver and two bronze.
The team event has also evolved into a Mediterranean affair with Tunisia defeating Morocco in the final and becoming a champion, while the bronze medal went to Egypt and Algeria.
