“The Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026 highlight the strategic role of a territory facing the sea, which for 3,000 years has connected different peoples and cultures—as evidenced by the wonders housed in the city’s National Archaeological Museum,” says Antonino Silvestri in the RAI3 TGR RegionEuropa report, describing the 20th edition of the Games. Their spirit aims to promote not only sports but also cooperation, strengthening the image of the region as a sporting, cultural, and tourist hub.

For CONI president Giovanni Malagò, this is a special and unique event, particularly given the complex historical context we are experiencing today. Sport serves as a driving force and a catalyst for strong social interaction, creating an appealing framework for future national and international events.

Organizing Committee president Massimo Ferrarese underscores that all necessary mechanisms are in place to ensure the timely completion of planned infrastructure projects. This is the most significant sporting event in the history of Southern Italy, and the region is determined to rise to the challenge.
