Educational values, equality, perseverance, visibility and success were the terms most often mentioned at the Spanish NOC’s first Women and Sport Conference. Alongside NOC President Alejandro Blanco, the Conference was attended by female sports management pioneers and several female Olympic champions, who talked about their experiences and various challenges they had faced during their sports and professional careers.
During his speech at the closing of the event, Alejandro Blanco, president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, assured that “we cannot forget the past. “If we don’t know where we come from, we don’t know where we are or where we want to go. It is important to listen to the pioneers, to all the women who began to be benchmarks in society, breaking down barriers”, he declared. In addition, addressing the athletes, he recognized that “society needs you in management positions. You have given us a lot as athletes, but what you can give us more as managers.”
