The Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) ended an Olympic year full of sporting success by holding its 19th gala, which honoured the Paris 2024 medallists and their coaches.
The ceremony was held in the Goyeneche Auditorium at the COE headquarters in Madrid, in the presence of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, the Minister of Education, Professional Training and Sport, Pilar Alegría, the Secretary of State for Sport, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, the IOC President Thomas Bach and numerous athletes and sports federation presidents.
The President of the Spanish Olympic Committee has presented the medals to the track and field athletes Jordan Díaz, María Pérez and Álvaro Martín, as well as the coach of the sailors Diego Botín and Florian Trittel, together with the President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach. The Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez awarded the medals to Álex Baena and Sergio Camello representing the Olympic football team, as well as to the members of the women’s water polo team.
The recognitions to the silver medalists have been granted by the President of the Spanish Olympic Committee, together with Juan Antonio Samaranch, vice President of the International Olympic Committee. The awarded athletes were María Pérez from track and field, the boxer Ayoub Ghadfa, the basketball player Vega Gimeno, representing the women’s 3×3 team, and the tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, who was unable to attend the gala.
They were also honoured, the bronze medalists in Paris 2024: the canoeists Diego Domínguez, Joan Antoni Moreno, Pau Echániz, Saúl Craviotto, Carlos Arévalo, Marcus Cooper and Rodrigo Germade, the tennis players Sara Sorribes and Cristina Bucsa, the judoka Fran Garrigós, the track and field athlete Álvaro Martín, the boxer Enmanuel Reyes Pla, the artistic swimming team and Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas as representative of the men’s handball team.
