Jordan Alejandro Diaz Fortun won his first Olympic triple jump title with a first attempt at 17.86m. The 23-year-old Spaniard was ahead of the Portuguese Pedro Pichardo (17.84 m) and the Italian Andy Diaz Hernandez (17.63 m).
Diaz Fortun offered himself a first Olympic title at the age of 23 thanks to a first attempt measured at 17.86 m ( + 0.1 m/s), which he repeated during his final jump on the Parisian track. Impressively consistent, it also had attempts to 17.84 m and 17.85 m.
Title holder, Pichardo was, as in Rome two months earlier, beaten by his former compatriot, missing the double by two centimeters with a second attempt measured at 17.84 m (+ 0.2).
Diaz Hernandez secured his bronze medal thanks to a final jump at 17.64 m (+ 0.7 m/s), even if his first attempt at 17.63 m would have been enough.
