Maltese Olympic Committee joins international effort to enhance Safeguarding in Sport
April 4, 2025The 9th edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Week (SOP) was officially launched at the Massena High School in Nice, in the presence of Marie Barsacq, Minister of Sports, Youth, and Community Life, Renaud Muselier, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, Anthony Borré, First Deputy Mayor of Nice, Marie-Amélie Le Fur, President of the French Paralympic and Sports Committee (CPSF), Astrid Guyart, Secretary General of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF), Véronique Moreira, Vice-President of the CNOSF in charge of Education, Edgar Grospiron, President of the Organizing Committee for the 2030 French Alps Olympic and Paralympic Games, and Arnaud Assoumani, patron of the 2025 Olympic and Paralympic Week.
As the first major highlight of SOP 2025, this launch event brought together more than 600 students from schools, high schools, and higher education institutions in Nice. To carry forward the momentum and spirit of the Paris 2024 Games, this 9th edition serves as a reminder of the importance of sports, especially for young people. Alongside a dozen Olympic and Paralympic athletes from the southern region, everyone celebrated the Olympic and Paralympic values.
Throughout this inaugural day, participants had the opportunity to try out numerous sports, including athletics, baseball, wheelchair basketball, biathlon, sport boules, bowling, curling, American football, rugby, volleyball, and explore wheelchair fencing as well as boccia!
Τhe Olympic and Paralympic Week in numbers:
- More than 700,000 students registered,
- Nearly 2,000 projects submitted across France and in French institutes and schools abroad,
- 120 athletes involved, led by Manon Apithy-Brunet and Arnaud Assoumani, the event’s patron and ambassador,
- Nearly 300 educational resources and materials made available to teachers, adapted for all levels from preschool to higher education, on the platform generation2024.franceolympique.com,
- Since its creation in 2017, the SOP has raised awareness among more than 5 million young people about the values of Olympism, Paralympism, and sports.
