A documentary entitled “Abanderados del Esfuerzo” (“The fighters of the effort”) on the story of seven elite Spanish athletes, who were hit by the Covid-19 crisis on their way to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo, was presented at the headquarters of the Spanish Olympic Committee.
The film was made possible thanks to the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation which is also responsible for the FER (Foment d’Esportistes amb Reptes) project, a programme that offers financial support to, and raises the profiles of, athletes in the Valencia region, with the goal of helping them achieve the best possible results at major national and international competitions.
The seven protagonists of the documentary were born in the Municipality of Valencia and are part of the FER program. They are Raúl Martínez (taekwondo), Jorge Ureña (athletics), Lidón Muñoz (swimming), Héctor Catalá (para triathlon), Ana Pérez Box (judo), Liliana Fernández (beach volley) and Nestor Abad (artistic gymnastics). Some of them have already ensured their presence in Tokyo. The rest are in the middle of the qualification process.
