The 18th edition of the Mediterranean Games, held from June 22nd to July 1st in Tarragona, Spain, was a great success in the spirit of fair play, friendship and solidarity. The Mediterranean Games of Tarragona achieved a high level of performance and broke several records, with the participation of 3,652 athletes, including a number of Olympic medalists and world champions, from 26 Mediterranean NOCs, a record number in the history of the Games.
The closing ceremony, celebrated at the Tarragona Nou Estadi del Gimnàstic on July 1st, was chaired by Amar Addadi, President of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games, Josep Fèlix Ballesteros, President of the Organizing Committee of the Mediterranean Games and Mayor of Tarragona and Alejandro Blanco, President of the Spanish Olympic Committee.
During the closing ceremony, the ICMG flag was lowered and handed over to Noureddine Boukhatem, Mayor of Oran, the Algerian city that takes over from Tarragona to organize the XIX Mediterranean Games.
