French Olympism has appointed its new president. Brigitte Henriques, vice-president of the French Football Federation (FFF), was elected president of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF).
She succeeds Denis Masseglia, who was at the head of the body for 12 years, and becomes the first woman to take up this post since its creation in 1972. The former international footballer, already vice-president of the CNOSF, obtained the absolute majority in the first with 577 votes, or 57.87% of the votes cast, and was well ahead of the former Olympic judo champion Thierry Rey, who receives 19.26% of the votes.
“I want to dedicate this victory to all women, first and foremost to my daughters Barbara and Fanny but also to Garance Oulaldj because she can be proud of her mother”, she declared after her election.
