The closing ceremony of the 15th European Youth Olympic Festival was held last Saturday in the Crystal Room of Baku, Azerbaijan.
Turkiye won 27 medals including 11 gold, 6 silver and 10 bronze and took the 3rd place in the medal standings, which was dominated by Russia with 66 medals. Τurkey with the 3rd place was on the highest position from the Mediterranean countries.
Italy conquered 8 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze medals and took the 5th place in the medal standings. Spain was in the 7th position, with 7 gold medals, 4 silver and 10 bronze. France took 6 gold medals and is in the 8th place with 8 silver and 14 bronze.
The European Youth Olympic Festival is held under the auspices of the European Olympic Committees and is considered the pride source of EOC. This festival is the first combined European event for young athletes, between 14 and 18 years old.
3900 athletes from 48 European countries competed in 12 sports venues. Fifty-two percent of the participants are males, and 48 percent are females. The athletes competed for 135 sets of medals in 10 sports: gymnastics, athletics, basketball, cycling, handball, judo, swimming, tennis, volleyball and wrestling.
