The ICMG Executive Committee meeting held in Taranto concluded successfully, marking a significant step forward in the further development of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games.
ICMG President Davide Tizzano welcomed the members of the Executive Committee, expressing his gratitude for their commitment to promoting the values of the Mediterranean Games. During his address, he highlighted the growing recognition of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (ICMG) within the global Olympic movement. President Tizzano emphasized that this increasing acknowledgment reflects the significance of the Mediterranean Games as a platform for fostering unity, cultural exchange, and athletic excellence across the region.
The Secretary General, Iakovos Filippousis, presented the ICMG Activity Report since Paris2024 Olympics and emphasized to the continuous growth of the organisation, the active participation of its NOC-members, the new corporate branding and commercial rights strategy, the digitalisation of all operations and the increasing interest for staging the Mediterranean Beach Games. He stressed also the enactment of the law by the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo, that defines the institutional framework for the OCMG Prishtina2030 and the Games organization.
The ICMG Executive Committee unanimously approved the 2023 Financial Statements Report issued by ICMG accountants. I&G Audit (appointed by the ICMG 2023 GA) has conducted the audit of the 2023 ICMG Financial Statements which show a true and fair view of the financial position of the ICMG. For the 5th consecutive year, the ICMG has a significant surplus. The Audit Report will be presented for approval by the ICMG General Assembly members in the meeting, to be held in September 2025.
Ms. Raquel Hernández Carbonell presented Alicante’s candidacy to host the 2031 Mediterranean Beach Games, on behalf the Spanish Olympic Committee and the Municipality of Alicante, delivering a detailed proposal that was positively evaluated and approved by the members of the Executive Committee.
The final decision of ICMG, on the bid of Alicante, the sole candidate city to host the 5th edition of the Mediterranean Beach Games, will be announced at the ICMG General Assembly in 2025. The Executive Committee announced also the composition of the 2031 MBG Evaluation Commission, which is due to visit Alicante in spring 2025 and submit the evaluation report to the members of ICMG General Assembly.
The Presidents of the Coordination Commissions for the upcoming Mediterranean Games presented their reports, highlighting the progress made and addressing challenges. Additionally, reports from all ICMG commissions included initiatives and strategic plans to further elevate sports in the Mediterranean basin were submitted and approved.
Finally, Mr. Stratos Karetos presented the great performance of the Mediterranean NOCs at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with an remarkable increase in the medals and in the numbers of the participating athletes.
