The Turkish National Olympic Committee (TMOK) has elected former volleyball star Ahmet Gülüm as its new President at its General Assembly, held in Istanbul, Turkiye.

President Gülüm, one of Türkiye’s most renowned volleyball players, represented his country 158 times and captained both Galatasaray and Arçelik Sports Clubs during an impressive 22-year professional career. Following his retirement in 2001, he founded Sportsnet, Türkiye’s first sports-focused marketing communications agency, and later established sportstv in 2010, a platform dedicated to promoting a variety of sports across the country.

Gülüm has also played a prominent role in international volleyball following the conclusion of his playing career, serving as President of the Turkish Volleyball Federation.

In his inaugural speech, the new President paid tribute to his predecessor, Prof. Dr Uğur Erdener, inviting him to the stage to acknowledge his leadership and immense contributions to sport.

Having served as President of the TMOC, an IOC Member, IOC Vice-President and now an IOC Honorary Member, and President of World Archery and SportAccord, Prof. Dr Erdener’s remarkable leadership over the past 14 years has significantly contributed to the development of sport in Türkiye and the wider Olympic Movement.
