The Olympic Values Education Programme in primary schools of Montenegro
March 5, 2026On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games pays tribute to all the women of the Mediterranean basin who, through their talent, commitment and leadership, contribute to the development of sport and to the promotion of Olympic values.
Across the Mediterranean region, women today occupy an essential place within the sports and Olympic movement. On the fields of play as well as within governance bodies, they actively contribute to the development of sport and to the promotion of its fundamental principles: excellence, respect, solidarity and the pursuit of excellence.
High-level athletes, coaches, sports leaders, physicians, physical trainers, referees or officials of sports organizations — each of them contributes, in her own way, to shaping the future of Mediterranean sport and inspiring younger generations.
The International Committee of the Mediterranean Games wishes to pay tribute to each of these women who, often with determination and perseverance, work tirelessly to enhance the role of sport and strengthen its function as a powerful vehicle for education, inclusion and rapprochement between the peoples of the Mediterranean.
The ICMG also wishes to express its high consideration to the standard-bearer champions of Mediterranean sport, who distinguished themselves during the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
Their presence on the Olympic podium represents a source of pride for the entire Mediterranean sporting community and demonstrates the level of excellence achieved by women athletes from the region in the most prestigious international competitions.
These performances illustrate the commitment, determination and spirit of excellence that characterize Mediterranean athletes and contribute to strengthening the valuable sporting heritage of the Mediterranean.
A momentum driven by institutional action
The International Committee of the Mediterranean Games also wishes to commend the work of its «Women in Sport» Commission, which actively promotes the role of women in Mediterranean sport.
Recently convened in Pristina, at the invitation of the Kosovo Olympic Committee, the Commission defined an ambitious roadmap aimed at strengthening the development of women’s sport across the region and encouraging greater access for women to positions of responsibility and leadership within the sports and Olympic movement.
These initiatives reflect the collective determination of Mediterranean sports institutions to continue advancing progress in terms of equality and inclusion.
Looking ahead to the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games
Within this dynamic context, women of Mediterranean sport — athletes, coaches, sports leaders and members of the support staff — will undoubtedly play a decisive role in the success of the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games, which will take place this August and September.
Through their commitment and expertise, they will continue to embody the values of Mediterranean sport and contribute fully to the success and international impact of this major celebration of sport in the Mediterranean.
