The Sports Awards Gala of the Maltese Olympic Committee
December 24, 2025The International Committee of the Mediterranean Games announces with deep sorrow the loss of its President, Davide Tizzano, who passed away today.
Davide Tizzano served the ICMG with dedication, responsibility and integrity, devoting his efforts to promoting the values of the Mediterranean Games—peace, cooperation, the sporting ideal, and the unity of the peoples of the Mediterranean. His presence and contribution left a lasting mark on the institution, strengthening its prestige and its prospects for the future. He worked for the ICMG for 12 consecutive years, having served as a member of the Executive Committee from 2013 to 2021, when he was elected President.
Davide was a two-time Olympic champion in rowing, winning gold in the men’s quadruple sculls at Seoul 1988 and again in the men’s double sculls at Atlanta 1996 alongside Agostino Abbagnale. A 17-time Italian national champion (1984–2005), he also achieved world titles in rowing (1986) and sailing (1993), and competed in the America’s Cup in 1992 and 2007.
The ICMG extends its sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family, as well as to all those who had the honour of knowing him and working alongside him.
May his memory be eternal.
