In this meeting, which marked the beginning of a strategic dialogue for the future of national sports, the COP presented topics it considers priorities for discussion and joint action with the government, based on contributions from Sports Federations over recent months:

  • Reform of the Statute of Volunteer Sports Leaders;
  • Model for financing national sports;
  • Full allocation of revenues from Social Games to Sports Federations;
  • Full allocation of the Special Online Gaming Tax to create a Sports Balance Fund;
  • Evaluation and possible restructuring of the national sports organization.

The Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, committed to thoroughly analyzing the proposals submitted by the COP and expressed interest and willingness to continue this initial meeting in order to establish efficient and close cooperation.

“It is essential that sports be treated as a national priority, in supporting athletes, in health, education, and social cohesion. In this regard, we believe it is crucial to reform the Statute of Volunteer Sports Leaders and ensure the sustainability of national sports,” emphasized Fernando Gomes.
