
Launch of the Mediterranean Young Ambassadors (MYA) programme: Εmpowering a new generation across the Mediterranean
May 31, 2025Alejandro Blanco, president of the Spanish Olympic Committee since 2005, has been re-elected for a new four-year term during the extraordinary general assembly held at the committee’s headquarters in Madrid.
With the support of the majority of the assembly members, and 95% of the votes in his favor, Alejandro Blanco will continue to lead the institution, thus extending a tenure that began on September 30, 2005, and will run through the first half of 2029.
Blanco, 74,was the only candidate and received 165 votes in favor and eight blank ballots.
In his first statements following his re-election, Alejandro Blanco expressed his gratitude for the support received and reaffirmed his commitment to Spanish sport: “Thank you all for placing your trust in me once again. It is an honor and a responsibility to continue leading the country of sport and athletes. We will continue to work with the same enthusiasm, effort, and dedication so that our athletes and federations receive all the support they need to keep Spain’s name at the top of the international stage.”
The assembly also approved Isabel Fernández as First Vice-President, Victoria Cabezas as Secretary General, and Víctor Sánchez as Treasurer. All three have served with Blanco since he first took office in 2005.
Legendary tennis player Rafael Nadal was unanimously approved as a new member of the Assembly representing athletes.
