Greek artistic swimmer Evangelia Platanioti achieved a monumental distinction, as she was named the world’s top athlete for 2024 according to the vote by World Aquatics. This prestigious honor comes in recognition of her outstanding performances at the World Championships as well as the Olympic Games.

Specifically, at the World Championships in Doha last February, the Greek champion won her first-ever world title, becoming the first Greek athlete to achieve such a feat at a global level.

In addition to the gold in the Technical Solo, she also earned silver in the Free Solo event. Beyond her success at the World Championships, she secured 6th place in the Duet event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, alongside Sofia Malkogeorgou.

The 30-year-old athlete had been singled out by the World Aquatics  together with Jacqueline Simoneau from Canada, Huiyan Xu from China, Klara Bleyer from Germany, and Kyra Hoevertsz from Aruba.
