Works of 120 million euros begin in Taranto for the 2026 Mediterranean Games

In the coming days, tenders will be announced for three sports facilities in Taranto that will be host the 2026 Mediterranean Games: the Iakovone stadium, the new swimming pool and the multi-purpose hall PalaRicciardi.

The Iakovone Stadium and the PalaRicciardi will undergo a major renovation while the new swimming stadium in Taranto, will have two Olympic sized pools of 50 metres.

The tenders for the projects of 120 million euros, were made by Ministerial Decrees and approved by the Court of Auditors on August 30.

The Iacovone stadium commits 59.750 million euros, the swimming pool 41 million and the PalaRicciardi 23.8 million euros. The work was funded between the first and second master plan for the Mediterranean Games and was based on the total budget of 275 million allocated by the government for the Mediterranean: 150 million euros in 2022 and 125 million in 2023.

All the works must be over by June 2026.

The Mediterranean Games will take place in Taranto from August 21 to September 3, 2026 with the participation of 4,500 athletes in 24 sports.
