The General Assembly of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games was held in Heraklion, Crete, one day before the Opening Ceremony of the Mediterranean Beach Games.
Among the important decisions made was the election of the Host Cities for the next editions of the Mediterranean Games. The General Assembly approved unanimously the Portuguese cities of Portimao and Lagoa to host the 4th Mediterranean Beach Games 2027. The presentation was made by the Secretary General of the Portuguese Olympic Committee José Manuel Araújo and the Mayor of Portimao Isilda Gomes.
Τhe Host City of the 21st Mediterranean Games 2030 will be Prishtina after a voting process in the ICMG General Assembly. The capital of Kosovo took 55 out of 66 votes. The delegation of Kosovo was led by the Prime Minister Αlbin Kurti.
The ICMG Secretary General Iakovos Filippousis presented the Activity Report of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games during the General Assembly.
He spoke about the establishment for the first time after 72 years of the ICMG Code of Ethics in full compliance with the IOC guidelines. The Code of Ethics was adopted unanimously by the Executive Committee in March 2023. He also noted that a new strategic partnership with the International Testing Agency for the MBG Heraklion 2023 and MG Taranto 2026 has been achieved. The General Assembly also approved the Proposed amendments to the ICMG Charter, by Prof. Francesco Purromuto.
The General Assembly took place in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Sports, Yannis Vroutsis and the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the European Olympic Committees, Spyros Capralos. The ICMG President, Davide Tizzano thanked the Minister and the HOC President for their contribution to the organizing of the Mediterranean Beach Games.
Mr. Mohamed Zribi, President of the MG Sports Program Commission was honoured with the ICMG Order of Merit by the President Davide Tizzano.
