ICMG family is devastated to learn of the death of the 17th years old sailing athlete Eya Guezguez whilst training with her sister Sarra.

We want to convey our heartfelt condolences to Sarra, Eya’s family, friends, the Olympic community in Tunisia and the wider sailing community at this challenging time.

Tunisian sailor Eya Guezguez, who represented her country at the Tokyo Olympics last summer, died at the age of 17 in an accident during the training of the national team, as it was announced on Monday.

The accident happened on Sunday, when the sailboat she was in with her twin sister Sarra capsized due to strong winds. Eya drowned but her sister was rescued.

During the Tokyo Games, the two twins took the 21st place in the 49er FX, a category of light dinghies.

It is with great sadness that we learned the tragic death of the young Tunisian skipper Eya Guezguez, who died at the age of 17 in an accident during training in her favorite sport. On behalf of the ICMG and the members of the Mediterranean Family, we present you our sincere condolences and ask you to share our feeling of compassion.

We would also be grateful if you would send our condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of the deceased. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
