Davide Tizzano is the new ICMG President. He was born in Naples on 21/05/1968. As an athlete he was a rower and a sailor with a sporting career of excellence in Italy and in the world. He was National Champion 17 times from 1984 to 2005, World Rowing Champion in 1986 and World Sailing Champion in 1993. He has won the Olympics in rowing twice: in Seoul 1988 and in Atlanta 1996. He has participated in the America’s Cup of Sailing 2 times: in San Diego (USA) in 1992 and in Valencia (ESP) in 2007. In total he participated in 5 editions of the Olympic Games, two as an athlete and 3 as an accompanying executive: Athens 2004, Rio 2016 (“Head of Mission” of the rowing team), Tokyo 2020 (Director of training campus Italia Team).
He has been on the Executive Board of the Mediterranean Games since 2013 and has held the role of President of the Athletes Commission for 3 years. He was Vice-President of the Italian Rowing Federation from 2012 to 2016 (in 2014 he organized the Rowing World Championships in Varese). As “Head of Sport” he was the Director of the 2019 Naples Universiade with 6,000 athletes, 11 Nations and 44 competition venues. Since 2014 he has been the Director of the Formia Olympic Center where the athletes of the Italian Olympic Team train. Davide Tizzano is also a teacher and trainer in relation to the study of the performance of High Level Teams at the University of Naples and some of the leading Italian training companies. In addition, at CONI’s School of Sport, he gave lectures on the organization of major international sporting events.
He is also an Honorary Member of the Italian Rowing Federation. The President of the Republic awarded him the honor of “Commander of the Republic” in 2016 after the Rio Olympics. He currently supports and promotes sports and social projects for the protection of the Mediterranean Sea and the “Mediterranean Plastic Free” initiatives.
